Congressman John Garamendi
Rep. John Garamendi will join us by zoom to answer questions or concerns that can be addressed at the federal level. The Congressman is serving his eighth term in Congress, representing California’s 8th district, which includes the cities of Vallejo, Fairfield, Martinez, and Richmond.
He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the top Democrat on the Subcommittee on Readiness, and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
He graduated from UC Berkeley, with a degree in Business and subsequently served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia. After returning from the Peace Corps, he attended Harvard Business School where he received his MBA. In 1974, Garamendi was elected to the California State Legislature and subsequently served four terms in the California State Senate.
From 1991 to 1995, and again from 2003 to 2006, he served as the California Insurance Commissioner. In 1995, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Interior by President Clinton. In 2007, Garamendi was elected Lieutenant Governor of California, and in 2009 was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election.
