Program for March 22
Scientist Eric Arens will examine the data that convinces experts that climate change is happening, and not in the future, but now. While it is true that the Earth has cycled between colder and warmer climate states, the present spike in average temperatures worldwide are clearly correlated to the abundance of CO2 in the atmosphere. These reasons behind the correlation of CO2 and rising average temperatures wil be explained, and the main lines of evidence for today’s changing climate will be shown. Technology can be deployed to reduce the CO2, and some of these are in progress. But even with these negative emission technologies in place, we must still dramatically curb carbon emissions to stay near or below the level that climate scientists warn will have catastrophic effects on our built environment, agriculture, migration trends, and more. Eric will describe those the actions that must be taken by individuals, businesses, and governments.
