Rotarians at Work | Plant to Plate

Richmond CA Rotary Posted on December 5, 2024 by Nakele RechenauerMarch 3, 2025

On December 4th, Ruthie Abelson Olivas and Shawn Dunning presented a check to Kelli Barram, Plant to Plate, to fund interns’ stipends, helping them to build their resumes and open doors for further employment opportunities.

The Plant to Plate Internship Program mentors, empowers, and prepares high school students to enhance their skills and advance their employment opportunities through training in organic gardening and the culinary arts.

They provide an integrated experience that builds job and life skills, fosters resilience, and fosters meaningful engagement in the fight against climate change.

Richmond Shimada Friendship Commission Youth Friendship Ambassadors

Richmond CA Rotary Posted on March 15, 2025 by Nakele RechenauerMarch 24, 2025

We are excited to once again host eight Youth Friendship Ambassadors and two Adult Friendship Ambassadors from Richmond’s sister city of Shimada, Japan. We would love to introduce you to the Shimada Ambassadors and share more about our annual youth exchange programs, including our summer Richmond Friendship Ambassador program for high school sophomores and juniors.

Sister City relationships are an essential part of a commitment to global peace and friendship. In-person exchanges are an invaluable tool for bridging cultural differences and creating lifelong friendships. Richmond has one of the oldest active US-Japan Sister City relationships in the country, thanks to the dedication and participation of many volunteers and supporters over the last 60+ years. We are so grateful for the Richmond Rotary’s support in our mission!
