The Good Scout Award Dinner both celebrates the McNairs’ decades of civic engagement and serves as a critical fundraiser for Scouting in West Contra Costa County. Proceeds from the event will support youth programs, leadership training, outdoor adventures and community service projects.
Margi is being recognized for her deep commitment to education, the arts and the local nonprofit community. She founded the Music and the Mind program at Washington Elementary, served 15 years on the Gateway Foundation board, launched the Point Richmond Farmers Market and created the Taste of Richmond fundraiser at the Richmond Yacht Club to bolster local nonprofit efforts.
Martin has focused on historic preservation and civic institution-building. As founder of the Point Richmond Gateway Foundation, he spearheaded the restoration of the century-old Trainmaster Building, helping revitalize a central community landmark. He served 25 years on the Mechanics Bank board, contributed more than 20 years to the Contra Costa College Foundation supporting student scholarships, and was instrumental in securing the land gift that made the Richmond Parkway YMCA possible.
The Trainmaster Building project, in particular, stands as a signature example of McNair’s civic vision. Under his leadership, a vacant historic railroad structure was relocated and rehabilitated as a Mechanics Bank branch, generating both preservation of local history and a revenue stream for community grants.
“We are thrilled to honor Martin and Margi, who have consistently demonstrated the values of Scouting—integrity, service, and leadership—in their everyday lives,” said Andrew Butt, chair of the Good Scout Award Committee. “Their impact on this community is profound, and we are excited to celebrate them while supporting the future of Scouting in West Contra Costa County.”
