West Coast Chess Alliance Tournament

Rotary was a proud sponsor of the 6th Annual West Coast Chess Alliance Tournament held on Saturday, October 25. Special thanks to Don Lau’s long time friend TC “The Black Knight” Ball who has been a leading chess advocate in our community. The multi generational tournament included youth matches, adult matches and grand masters challenging multiple players. Congratulations to all who participated! Richmond Rotary supports the community

Richmond Rotary presented checks of support to our grant recipients:

Richmond Red Oak Victory – Support for ongoing Educational programs for K through 12th grade.

SparkPoint Contra Costa – Support for Rental assistance for low-income residents, Down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, Enrollment support for EBMUD’s Water Lifeline Program, which helps eligible households cover past-due water and sewer bills.

Richmond Promise – Support for the Annual Scholars Celebration.

Richmond Art Center – Support for the 63rd Annual Holiday Arts Festival on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 10am-4pm at Richmond Art Center.

Food for Thought – Support for Food boxes for 720 families at 16 schools during the school winter break: Chicken, rice, beans, pasta, oatmeal, and fresh produce.

Peres Free Dental Clinic is open again

Don Lau reported that the Dan Tanita Free Dental Clinic reopened on October 17 after almost a year of being closed due to changing legal requirements! Special thanks to volunteer Clinic Director Dr Josh Rosales for his commitment to getting the Clinic open. Also thanks to admin support Quarana McKnight-Davis and Principal Colette West. Bringing smiles back to the students at Peres!!

Josh and Elaina Genser Culinary Center Ribbon-cutting Ceremony Sep 25

Thursday, September 25 was the grand opening of the Josh and Elaina Genser Culinary Center at RPAL. Rotary was proud to provide funding for the appliances at the center. Rotary previous president Oscar Garcia oversaw the District Grant that funded the project. Rotarian Sarah Wally managed the project. Rotarians also did volunteer work at the center. Congrats to Executive Director Larry Lewis and the board and staff at RPAL.
