The Easter Hill UMC Freedom School is excited to offer a free six week literacy and social justice program this summer. We are an official Freedom School site of the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools, serving thirty K-3 grade scholars in Richmond, California. Over the course of 6 weeks, our high energy Harambees, culturally grounding literature dives, diverse enrichment opportunities, and weekly field trips help fuel our young scholars’ love of reading and love of self. We work to maintain and increase summer reading levels, as well as improve the academic and social success of our scholars during the school year. Additionally, we seek to provide meaningful family engagement for families enrolled in our program. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the future of Richmond.
