We teach afterschool, hands-on STEM programs to girls ages 4-12, all of whom live in poverty or extreme poverty, and 90% of whom are girls of color. You may know that a far lower percentage of girls than boys think that they are good at STEM – this is for many reasons. There are far fewer women than men in STEM fields, again for numerous reasons. We give girls the confidence and knowledge to know that they are just as good. Our outcomes clearly show this, in addition to showing that we are priming the workforce pipeline beginning at the appropriate ages.
